雅培理神父── 大膽的信心

從已俗化的信仰來看,雅培理神父的講辭和理念似乎對某些人是輕率妄斷,但對印刷使徒的備修生是自然的事。對這次默想我們願引證雅培理神父(神學士)幾篇向青年修士的簡短講辭,引領我們回顧初創的保祿家庭小團體,以怎樣的信德來回應天主的行動。當時的賈卡鐸修士紀錄了1918年3月12日雅培理神父向保祿會修士談到「學業」的重要:

「『求學』不是只有讀書一條路,它還直接得自天主賦予的學識。人人都必經過這條道路,不過,我們遠比其他的學生、教區修院的修生和修士更有機會,為什麼?因為我們必須認識自己的使命,但是,我們只有少許的時間讀書,而且我們也需要工作;所以,上主必須賦予我們學識,我們用四個鐘頭讀書,比其他用八個鐘頭的學生更有效益。因此,必須立下明確而簡單的合約:『上主,我須要知道很多事,可是我沒有多少時間讀書;我還要排字,還要印刷,不過我要完全按照您的旨意來排字和印刷,求您賜給我學識。』……有這樣的信德,就會親眼見到事實……聖神不會以火舌之形降在你們頭上,卻要使用這種方式:祂將使我們更快學得我們所讀的,更牢記所學的,並更用功地讀書。信德是保祿大家庭主要的精神,我們必須銘記在心坎!聖保祿為天主工作,他對天主說:『供職於祭壇的,就分享祭壇上的物品。』我們也是如此:我們為天主工作,應該需要知道許多事,上主自會設法供應我們食糧,不僅是口糧,也包括心智方面的食糧。我們應該為祂工作,也有權利為祂生活。

因此,我們不應該按照別人對我們說的話,來處理我們的生活,卻要按照保祿大家庭的精神來生活。誰若批評我們讀書太少,我們就應該這樣回答他:『有我們,也有天主的恩寵。我們只佔一部分,而天主的恩寵卻佔兩部分……』。除讀書外,還有一個更崇高也更有效益的求學方法:就是『祈禱』。藉著信德和祈禱,天主使我們不必讀書而求得學識,意思是說,我們應該作那屬於我們部分的全部工作,其餘的天主將會補足。」

賈卡鐸修士還記錄1919年1月5日雅培理神父的訓詞:「……『讀一個鐘頭的書,而求得四個鐘頭的學識』。他與上主立了合約,出版善書的青年們只靠讀書是得不到完整的教育。他們也應該工作,不過,要做出版善書的使徒。所以,會祖要我們工作和祈禱,上主自會照料,使我們求得四倍的學識。這不僅是在讀書方面,也包括全部的生活……該怎樣才能成功呢?

1.相信雅培理神父的話。

2.完全信賴天主。

3.善用時間。」

雅培理神父必然要把這些觀念銘刻在青年的心中。就在兩天之後,他利用主顯節(1月7日)的機會,又對修士們重複相同的理念,賈卡鐸修士寫下這篇摘要:

「敬愛的慈父請我們全體都與上主訂立一個合約……今早在默想中,他重新提到這件事的重要、基礎、條件和邀請。他的言語好像烈燄,充滿信念和說服力。基礎是:『信賴天主』,因為祂曾許下要把智慧賜給向祂求得智慧的人……天主喜歡信賴祂的人,世上所缺少的就是信賴。

合約的重要性必須認真地實行;反之,誰若不遵守合約,正如用黃金來做鞋釘。有了合約將會進步並行奇蹟,重新振發低落的學習力,天主也不會減少祂的恩寵。至於合約的條件是:

1.信賴天主和善用時間。

2.善用所有讀書的時間。

 3.許下要利用所學的一切,只為出版善書和光榮天主。』」

他自己已經立了這個合約,並請大家也同天主立這合約,但他讓我們完全自由。令人詫異的是賈卡鐸修士在講辭的結尾,引用福音的一句話:「誰能明白的,就明白吧!」

合約的產生是因處在迫切需要學識的情況下,但學業並非為了求知,而是為實行天主託付給保祿會的使命,以光榮天主及拯救人靈。但很快的合約的範圍擴大了,不僅在學業方面,也概括其他生活範圍。
